GTF Grant Success Story #5: Ashtyn Cooley

written by Heather Walker, Program Coordinator, DigiTex

Ashtyn Cooley is a first-year student at Howard College and is studying for her degree in Dental Hygiene. Because she works full-time and travels for State Farm Insurance, she has a very full schedule between her job and her classes. This meant that it was very important to her to have some flexibility in her classes so that she could balance her time between work and school. When her advisor first told her about digital course sharing through DigiTex powered by Acadeum, she was excited to find a solution that fit with her busy life.

Although Ashtyn says that school has never been her favorite activity, she was happy to have the opportunity to take Introductory Chemistry I and found it to be easy to navigate. She commented that it was well-organized and included great videos which really helped to explain the content. Overall, she said that she learned a lot from her class and found that a key to her success was making sure that she checked announcements regularly and kept track of due dates for all of her assignments.

Ashtyn also shared with us that this class has allowed her to stay on track for her degree program. If she hadn’t found Introductory Chemistry I through DigiTex, she would likely not have been able to attend classes in the Spring semester because she lives a significant distance from Howard College and would have found it difficult to attend classes in person, especially with her full-time work schedule. For any students who are considering taking classes through digital course sharing, she says, “Do it! Make time for your assignments and push yourself to do the best you can[!]”
